"Live" updates from the 2014 2.4mR World Championships in Toronto

The day began with overcast skies and a forecast of rain. The fleet was AP on shore at 10:00 and a mark boat was sent out to check on wind conditions in the area of the race course.  After a wait of about 2 hours, the wind arrived and via the "D" flag, the fleet began to leave shore at 12:18 (EST).  
The conditions are cool with some haze and a steady but building breeze.

It was a tight first start. All clear. Leading at the windward mark is GBR 141, followed by GBR 3 and FIN 175 with the pack close behind.

The fleet headed in due to dying wind conditions.

RACE 3

It is an ovecast day with winds around 10 knots with a forcast to slowly build over the course of the day. It is very misty and foggy. A damp day for sure.

The seas are rolly and lumpy -  typical winds from the east.

For the first race - a General recall was called due to shifting winds. Second start was under the U flag was close to the start line. At the windmark leading is GBR 141, SWE 379, and FIN 179.

Top of the second leg, GBR 141 leads, followed by CAN 8 and SWE 379

The first race has been completed.

RACE 4

The second race has started -  leading at the weather mark is NOR 1, SWE 420 and CAN 8.
 Seas are lumpy, winds about 7 knts and finally the mist has cleared.

Race number four has been completed.

Third race of the day is about to start.

The third race has started.  It was a very close start, but all clear.
 
First around the windward mark is SWE 379 followed by GBR 3 and FIN 179

Although there was a brief period with no mist and fog it returned as the third race was finishing.
 
The results for the third race are as follows:
 
First - SWE 379 Stellin Berlin
Second - NOR 1 - Bjornar Erikstrad
Third - GBR 3 - Will Street.

Race 6

The weather is overcast, about 8knts of breeze from the east, seas again are choppy.
 
First Race - Can 99 first to round the windward mark, followed closely by SWE 379 and SWE 420

CAN 99 still leading at the gate. Course shortened.
At the second windward mark SWE 379 took the lead

SWE 379, Stellin Berlin, continues to dominate.  The results for Race 6 are as follows:
 
SWE 379 - Stellin Berlin
GBR  75 - Helena Lucas
CAN 99 - Paul Tingley
 
Keep your fingers crossed, it looks as though the sun may make an appearance.

The sun is finally starting to burn off the mist. Winds still from the east, seas are still somewhat lumpy with about 10 knt winds.

Second race started well, GBR 75 was first to the windward mark.

Second windward rounding, CAN 8 leads with NOR 1 and GBR 75 close behind.

Winners of Race 7 are as follows:
 
First - NOR 1 - Bjornar Erikstad
Second - GBR 75 - Helena Lucas
Third - FIN 179

RACE 8

All clear at the start. First boat to the windward mark is GBR 75, NOR 1 and GBR 141 were close with the fleet following tightly.

Course changed due to shifting winds. Leading at the last leg is GBR 75, FIN 131 and SWE 379

The sun is finally starting to burn off the mist. Winds still from the east, seas are still somewhat lumpy with about 10 knt winds

Final race of the day has been completed.  A bit sunnier, winds at 8 - 10 knts from the east and still lumpy seas.

First - GBR 75 - Helena Lucas
Second - FIN 131 - Janne Laine
Third - SWE 379 -  Stellin Berlin

First start general recall, second start under U flag.
Leading at the mark is FIN 175, NOR 1 and GBR 75

Second windward leg, leading at the mark is FIN 175, followed closely by CAN 99 and NOR 1

 It is a sunny breezy day here in Toronto.  The results from Race 9 are as follows:

Start all clear, first to round the windward mark is SWE 379, GBR 75 and SWE 420

This will be the last race of the day.  Wind is lightning (calm before the storm) and the conditions are such that they no longer provide good racing.

Stellan Berlin is back in the lead again after two discard´s are coming into force
