Michael Leydon started the summer with a close win in the Canberra Regatta. Sailed in the confined waters of West Basin, the variable winds gave all competitors a chance to be winners but Michael was always near the front and scored 2½ wins for a score of 6.5 points.
Tight racing became ridiculous when four boats rafted up at the bottom mark in Race 1 when unclear sailing instructions led to a buoy room fight with the outside boat thinking there was a bottom gate. No!
Simon Dunstone joined Michael Leydon and Peter Russell on the winner’s podium with a tied finish to Race 4.
All boats enjoyed the close racing with the scores all close at the end of the series. And the forecast rain largely stayed away!
