America's Regatta 2011

Mark Leblanc USA wins the 2011America’s Regatta

The 2011 Americas Regatta was held in St Petersburg, Florida and finished on Sunday December 4th. On the the 3rd day of racing, there were some great breezes and was probably the best 2.4mR racing St. Pete has had in years.
The 1st day was a steady 10-12 knots from the NE. Racing started around 10 and there were 4 good races. Mark LeBlanc did well finishing: 7, 3, 2, and 1. He improved each race, had decent starts and sailed well tactically. He commented that he made a few errors, but was working with his coaches to correct those and move forward.
Day 2 of the racing started out with the wind similar to the day before, but with bigger waves since the wind blew all night. They had had four races and Mark finished 1, 3, 4, and 1. 4 great finishes pushed Mark into 1st place overall by 5 points.
The last day they only had 3 races scheduled and the wind and waves were very similar to the previous 2 days. Mark approached the day with the plan to start each race well and keep track of his 2 closest competitors while sailing fast and smart. In the 3 races he finished 3, 4, and 6. This kept his first place overall winning the regatta by 2 points from his closest competitors.
