AUSTRIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

A report by Alfred Sulek

On the weekend from August 20 to 22 the Austrian championship of the sailing class 2.4mR took place in Gmunden. Due to very low wind only 5 of the planned 10 races could be held. Since on the first day no race at all could be carried out, on the 2nd day 2 races were completed at 6:30am in the morning with upper wind and two more in the afternoon. On the last day of the regatta, one last race was held in the morning in decreasing wind, with the last athletes arriving at the finish line in almost zero wind. In an international field of 24 boats, Ulli Libor from Germany came out on top ahead of the two Italians Antonio Squizzato and Davide Di Maria. In the Austrian classification, the Tyrolean sailors from the SCTWV again stood out, with Eva-Maria Jöchl taking gold and reigning national champion Mario Graus having to settle for bronze. Experienced lateral entrant Hans-Peter Münnich from Wolfgangssee had to admit defeat by a narrow margin and became vice champion on his debut.
